EMS Kicks Off Trails Week with Sleeping Giant State Park Employee Cleanup

May 7th, 2023 – Eastern Mountain Sports is kicking off its first annual #EMSTrailsWeek, inviting employees, brand and non-profit partners, as well as customers and community members at-large to join along. The goal, according to EMS, is to celebrate and take care of local trail networks by joining clean-ups and partaking in trail maintenance efforts in conjunction with area non-profit organizations.

The first trail project was held at Sleeping Giant State Park, where EMS employees joined SGPA’s Trail Crew in removing invasive species such as winged euonymus and garlic mustard.

“I am absolutely overjoyed and overwhelmed by the amazing effort put forth by Eastern Mountain Sports, our dedicated staff, loyal customers, and supportive brand partners in this trail cleanup initiative,” says Kerry Muricchio, EVP and GMM at Eastern Mountain Sports. “Your willingness to give back to the community and environment is truly commendable and fills my heart with happiness. Thank you all for your outstanding commitment to making a positive impact in our world.”
Sleeping Giant State Park Association is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and caring for the Sleeping Giant in Hamden, Connecticut. Volunteers can join their Trail Crew on Sunday mornings April through November to assist with trail maintenance: To learn more, visit https://sgpa.org/program-calendar/.

“Our store team members are excited to take part in these community efforts,” says Craig Anderson, Manager of HR Field Operations at Eastern Mountain Sports. “They have a close connection to local outreach entities and this initiative will further those relationships to better serve the community and directly impact outdoor and environmental causes.”
Upcoming projects include Save the Sound, the Connecticut Forest and Park Association, and the D&R Greenway Land Trust. Over fifteen EMS Brand Partners have also pledged to partake in local efforts, including Brooks, Osprey, Altra, Smartwool, and more. Participants are encouraged to post their projects on social media, tagging #EMSTrailsWeek and #EMSTrailDays to help spread the word.
